What to Do This Weekend–October 22, 23

I actually found time to do some events research for y’all… yay!  I updated the Events Page with a bunch of events, but here are some happenings for this weekend:


10/21-23 – Chantilly – 16th Annual Craftsmen’s Fall Classic Arts & Crafts Festival – 10am-6pm – Features original designs & work from hundreds of talented artists & craftsmen from across the nation. Visit with the actual artisans as you browse the booths and discover what goes into the creation of these one-of-a-kind treasures. There is something from every style, taste & budget with items from traditional to contemporary, functional to whimsical and decorative to funky. Come experience the extraordinary and find something for everyone on your shopping list, including yourself. $7/Adult, $1/Child 6-12, free/Under 6 yrs. Advance discount & group (15+) tickets available, discount coupons on web site and in local newspapers as part of ads.

10/21-23 – Leesburg, VA – Battle of Ball’s Bluff Reenactment and Illumination – The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, in conjunction with Morven Park present the Battle of Ball’s Bluff Reenactment and Civil War History Weekend.  Some of the events at these two historic locations include the Virginia Sesquicentennial HistoryMobile traveling exhibit at Morven Park, Civil War in Leesburg history exhibition and activities, viewing of soldiers leaving Morven Park to march to battlefield, troops inspecting weapons at Morven Park, Re-enactment at Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park.  A Special Illumination at Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park will start at 7:00pm on 10/22 followed by special ticketed evening activities at Morven Park.  Please visit the website for more specific information regarding this fantastic event.

10/22-23 – Mount Vernon, VA – 9am-5pm – Mount Vernon Estate, Museum & Gardens – Mount Vernon welcomes the autumn season with activities including wagon rides, wheat treading in the 16-sided barn, 18th-century dancing demonstrations, a straw bale maze, apple-roasting, corn husk doll making demonstrations and early-American music. $15 adult, $7 children 6-11, Free for children 5 and under

10/22-23 – Centreville – Northern VA Fall Brewfest – The World Beer Experience will feature more than 40 of the world’s best breweries, plenty of delicious food to complement the craft beers and outstanding local and regional bands providing entertainment. The BrewFest is a fantastic beer sampling event primarily featuring microbrews. Attendees receive a commemorative tasting glass and the first four samples are included in your entrance price (assuming you’re 21 or older). The glass is 6.75 oz. and will be filled accordingly, giving you a 5-6oz. pour. Beers will cost between 1-2 tickets depending on the beer you’re drinking. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1.00 per ticket.

10/22-23 – Springfield – Saturday 9am-4pm; Sunday 11am-4pm – 4th Annual Autumn Arts and Crafts Show – Top quality, handmade work by over 50 artisans.  Apparel, art, floral design, glasswork, jewelry, photography, pottery, ornaments, weaving, woodwork, and more!  FREE Kids Zone also available! $3 per person/children 12 and under are free. 7550 Reservation Drive, Springfield, VA

10/22-30 – Fairfax Station – Burke Lake Park “Ghost Train” Rides – 11:15am-5:45pm –  The Burke Lake Ghost Train rolls into town with family-friendly fun!

10/22 – Centreville – Centreville Day – 10am-5pm –   Discover the best of Centreville past, present and future at this community celebration in the heart of the Centreville Historic District. A parade, live entertainment, food court, and a vibrant marketplace reflect the cultural diversity of present-day Centreville while costumed interpreters and tours of historic sites bring Centreville’s 250 years of history to life. Come in costume and collect treats, or listen to stories about the ghosts that haunt the district. Plenty of children’s activities and fun for the whole family.

10/22 – Burke – Children’s Consignment Sale – 8am-1pm – Great bargains on quality children’s clothing, furniture, baby gear, toys, books, maternity and nursing clothes, and much more! Due to space constraints, we cannot accommodate shoppers with strollers.

10/22 – Chantilly – Ghosts in Time – 6:30pm – Walk the banks of the Cub Run stream and hear the stories of the people who once called it home. Find out why Rock hill could be considered cursed and hear the stories of the Hutchinson bothers and their parts in the revolutionary and civil wars.  $4 for Fairfax County residents/$6 for out-of-county residents

10/22 – Fairfax – VolunteerFest: A Community-Wide Day of Giving – Join Volunteer Fairfax at VolunteerFest on Saturday, October 22 for its 17th annual Fairfax area day of service. VolunteerFest is a region-wide day of community service held in conjunction with National Make a Difference Day that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to help nonprofits accomplish tasks that they would not have the time or resources to do on their own.   

10/22 – Annandale – Annandale Fall Festival and Parade – 10am-5pm – Scores of merchants with hand made and fashion jewelry, ceramics, imported silks, pet accessories, art work, quality giftware from major manufacturers, exquisite crafts and so much more will fill the community market. Rock bands, Jazz groups, and Costumed International Dancers will set your toes tapping while “The Taste of Annandale,” with food from many culinary cuisines, will satisfy every taste craving. The Kid’s Zone will challenge with a Bungee Jump, Bungee Basketball, a Rock Climbing Wall, Inflatable Games, Costumed Characters, a Treasure Hunt, Face Painters, Puppet Shows and interactive games for toddlers to teens. The Annandale Parade, taking place since 1950, will march down Columbia Pike betweet 10 am and NOON.

10/22 – Clifton – 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest at Paradise Springs Winery – Join us on this special fall day for our second annual pumpkin carving contest! Complimentary for guests with a purchase of a bottle of wine. Pumpkins and tools will be provided and prizes will be given out to the winners! First Prize includes a special Paradise Springs group tasting and gift bag.

10/22 – McLean – Annual Halloween Concert and Party @ B2R McLean – 7pm – Join us for a free family-friendly concert–the Bach to Rock McLean 4th Annual Halloween Party and Concert @ the Old Firehouse Teen Center in McLean. Enjoy our student bands strutting their stuff in their Halloween finery. All ages welcome; costumes, dancing, and Halloween spirit encouraged! Bands and deejay TBA.

10/22 – Round Hill – Hill High Orchard Complex Fall Neighborhood Block Party – 10am-6pm – Enjoy the autumn splendor this October in Round Hill! The Hill High Orchard Complex will be host to a “Neighborhood Block Party” sponsored by The Country Store, The Gateway Gallery, Round Hill Art Center, and Bogati Bodega. Stop in for BBQ, live music, pies, ice cream, artist demonstrations, children’s art activities, and more. We look forward to welcoming the public to our refurbished space in the old Hill High Orchard building at the western edge of Loudoun County. This landmark destination is considered by many as the gateway to rural western Loudoun, welcoming visitors from the Blue Ridge to the Beltway and beyond!

10/23 – Herndon – Scarecrow Making Workshops – Bring an outfit and a pair of pantyhose for each scarecrow.  We supply special touches for faces.  Held outdoors, dress for the weather.  Must register in advance.  Event cancelled in the event of rain. $7 per scarecrow.
